The place is Ama tourist information office. I was changing the sign board of our office. Before, it was Ama tourist information office, from now we call it “information desk of the heart”. I’m the one who suggested this name.
Once I went to a Sushiya. The sign board says “kokoro o nigirimasu” which means that I will take hold your heart tightly. If I was in first or second year in Japan and know nothing about Japanese, I will not get in to this shop, because, its kind of dangerous isn’t it. But when I went to the shop, I felt what it tries to convey through the sign board. It was a compact phrase, but it conveys all.
So I suggested the above mention name to our office. Our intention is to understand our customers’ heart and convey our hearts to them. I will give you an example.
Customers frequently ask us; please guide me to a good Japanese style inn (Minshuku). So we will ask the customer, do you want to stay at a place where, your phone is connecting, or do you prefer the place that, your phone is dead.
As we know the global village is developing so fast and your phone is connecting any where in the world. So even you want to forget all the fuss and buss and relax at your best, your phone is ringing.
But here in Ama, there are places of, no signals, so even some one wants to get in to you, they can not call you. How wonderful, because of that, places that have no signals are very popular among the tourist.
As it says in the sign board, we are bound to provide the best service for our tourists, because of that we have stayed each and every Minshukus, Rrokans and hotel. So we can guide our customers to the most suitable place which matches with their demands.
When we meet with those people who are running minshukus and ryokans, they always say that how hard it is to run the business these days. The one and only reason is lack of the tourists.
So we, the staff of the information desk of the heart, always think about this and we have tried many things before to uplift the number of tourists, but nothing had worked yet. But this time, it’s working.
Our concept is, “earn while your tour”. Normally tour means, you have to pay money, but here in Ama, you can earn while your tour. There is a currency call Amoney. There are several ways that you can earn Amoney. Let me give you an example.
Normally there is a taxi driver for the, sightseeing taxi, but if you want you can be the taxi driver for your own tour, The job that you wanted to be when you were small, and also you can earn Amoney . You can also work at minshukus, Ryokans and hotel to earn Amoney. For example in Japanese style inn, you can help to the Obachan of the Inn to prepare food. You can go shipping with the master and if you are lucky enough to get turban shells or big abalones, you can also convert them to Amoney.
If you are staying at hotel, there are many things that you can do. Bed making, dish washing, washing toilets are the high ranking jobs to earn more and more Amoney. You also can work in Kinnyamonya center to earn Amoney. When you have the waiting time for your ferry you can clean the center and you can earn money to buy Omiage. Jobs are differing due to the seasons and also to the festivals. The working in beer garden in summer and helping the walking tour are the high ranking jobs. If you have something special in you or if you have a great idea and if you can show us, how it can be connected with the ama, you can also earn Amoney for your Idea.
Even though we say it Ama is a sightseeing spot, there are not that much to see in Ama. We have frankly said it to customers, but still they want to visit Ama. The reason is the “People”.
People does not mean the great people like, Ex emperor Gotoba Or Koizumi Yakumo, but the people who are living this island and who are explaining the history or the Obachan of the minshuku. Truly speaking if some customer asks me, when did the Ex emperor came to Ama or, who is Koizumi Yakumo. I say sorry I do not know. But I can say many things about the guide, who is going to explain you about history of Ama. Once the tourists meet with this guide or an obachan in a minshuku, they want to meet them again. So they visit Ama, again and again.
Another reason why they are coming here is, “The interest rate for Amoney”. As you know, even you deposit money in a normal Japanese bank you will get very less interest.
And interest is something you can get more and more when it gets older.
But things are different in the case of Amoney, you can get high rate of interest as soon as you withdrew it. But there is one regulation; you have to come to the information desk of the heart to withdraw your Amoney. So it’s better to go to Amacho after 6 months rather than one year.
There is another regulation for the people who are visiting Ama. That rule is you have to write a thanking letter. This letter can be written to the any one who you like. Once you written the postcard you have to bring it to the information desk of the heart, just by doing that you can get Amoney.
Most of the tourists write letters to Obachan of the minshuku where they stayed, or the guide person, who guided you while your tour. But there are some other people, who write this letter to their parents, kids, or a friend who tour with them. Some parents are sending us thanking letters buy saying that they got a letter from their child for the first time in the life.
There are special letters like this also. One girl, who has never before scolded by her parents, had sent a thanking letter to the obachan who scolded her in the hotel while working together. She mentioned how it feels good to get an advice from an elder person and how it changed her whole life.
The information desk of the heart and the world has connected by two words. Those two words are Thank you and the warm heart.
Or its warm, it’s warm
Yesterday I have forgotten to close the shoji (a paper sliding door) of my window. So the morning sun is directly on to my face.
Oh oh. Its 8 already. I’m getting late to the work.
After long time I had a nice dream. |
